Sanford Equity Taskforce Member: Jermaine White
As an educator, I joined the Sanford Equity Task Force Initiative to make a difference in the community where I live. It was very important for me to be aligned with a diverse group of stakeholders that share the same passion I have for equity and social justice at this time in our history.
Right now, our community needs dreamers and innovators to step up and be heard. This task force is strengthening the foundation for marginalized voices to be amplified in board rooms, classrooms, and other important settings around the city. It is my hope that the work of this initiative ignites an irreversible level of excitement that provides a beautiful vision for what the future of this community will look like.
I caution you though, there is no need to have a vision if the only thing you desire is to maintain old traditions. The change that we seek as members of this task force does not lie in what’s familiar, but has been birthed in our ability to speak truth to power and do what is right for all citizens. Dr. Martin Luther King said that the time is always right to do what’s right. As difference makers, our time is now!
My pledge as a task force member is to be E.P.I.C – Engaging, Powerful, Inspiring, and Connecting with anyone looking to join forces in this important work. Together we can ensure equity and excellence in every area of this great city.
